Canon Rebel XSi Or T1i - Which Canon Rebel Should I Buy
Personally, I would choose the Canon Rebel XSi unless I had some extra cash that I did not know what to do with. And I have some excellent reasons. Canon has been at the top of the digital camera market, and in particular at the top of the DSLR market (along with Nikon) forever. Their Digital Single Lens Reflex cameras are all excellent. You could not make a mistake by purchasing any of them.
Even the lowest of the Canon DSLR line, the Canon Rebels, are rated very highly by all the camera review websites. While there are plenty of really good cameras to choose from other than a Canon, not every one of them is a great choice, and you would have to do some serious research before making your buying decision unless you had some inside information from a professional photographer friend. But buying a Canon DSLR is a no-brainer. They are all good. You will be really impressed with the quality of the images.
OK, so why choose the Rebel XSi over the T1i? It's because of the price. The XSi is more than $150 cheaper than it's younger cousin, the T1i. And for the novice photographer (which is what most of us are when we are buying our first entry level DSLR) the technology differences of the two cameras are pretty much non-existent. The exception is the HD video. If you must have video in your digital camera, then you should get a Canon Rebel T1i. Otherwise, go with the XSi.
Use the $150 dollars you save to buy an extra lens or a tripod.
Bottom line if you are asking yourself the question "which Canon Rebel should I buy".. You can't make a mistake, because they are both fantastic. Buying a Canon Rebel XSi or T1i will transform your photographic life, especially if you get that extra lens. Make it a macro or a zoom lens to give yourself a bit more flexibility.

How to capture the stars with my Canon Rebel XTi?
I just got my Canon Rebel a few weeks ago, before that I had a Kodak point and shoot, so I am completely new to aperture and shutter and all of that. I would love to get some pictures of star trails, how can I do this? A step by step process would be extremely helpful! Please remember, I am really new at this so you may have to explain a little more, thanks in advance!
The absolute key is having a tripod and adjusting the shutter speed.
Shutter speed is how long you let the light through to the sensor on your camera. The longer you keep the shutter open, the more light gets through to the sensor, which is where the image is stored. Shutter speed is usually spaced like so: 1/1000 (of a second), 1/500 (of a second), 1/250, 1/125, 1/60, 1/30, 1/15, 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 1 (second).
If your goal is to see the path of a star, you'll want a shutter speed of several minutes, which requires a remote or cable trigger so that you can hold open the shutter as long as you want. Your shutter speed will be set to either B (bulb) or T (time). With B, you physically hold the button as long as you want the shutter open. With T, you press the button to open the shutter, and press it again to close the shutter, saving you the discomfort of actually holding down the button.
Next is your aperture. Aperture is how large of a hole you're letting the light through. The larger the hole, the more light gets in. Aperture can come in the following numbers: f/1.4, f/2, f/2.8, f/4, f/5.6, f/8, etc. up to f/32 or more. If you look directly into the lens of your camera, you can see the hole get bigger and smaller when you change the aperture. The smaller the number, the larger the hole, and the more light you let in.
To take a photo of the stars, it will be key to get the light from the stars while not letting the night sky make your image too bright. If you leave the shutter open long enough, a night sky will come out bright as day. Use a higher aperture with a longer shutter speed to avoid this.
And finally, you'll want to adjust the ISO / film speed. ISO is how quickly your camera sensor absorbs the light from a setting. A higher ISO (1600) will absorb a lot of light in a little amount of time. For star photography, this is bad. You want a nice black sky and bright shining stars. So, choose the lowest ISO you can (usually 200), which will also give you a less grainy photo.
